Policies and Procedures

Tardy Policy

Students coming to school tardy should go directly to homeroom if the student arrives before 8:55 A.M. The student should present a written excuse, signed by parent/guardian, to the homeroom teacher. If the student arrives AFTER 9:10 A.M., he/she should present a written excuse, signed by parent/guardian, to the office. Please support our focus on student achievement and make certain that you arrive and are in your seat when class begins at 8:55 A.M. We consider punctuality to be very important in the learning process. Habitual tardiness will result in parent conferences or referral to Attendance Officer.

Early Dismissal Procedure

The adult picking up the student reports to the office to sign out the student. The office sends for the student for dismissal. The adult must be listed on the information card in the office in order to pick up the child. The person picking up the student must officially sign out the student in the office. No early dismissal after 3:25.

Visitors

When a visitor arrives they must sign in at the main office. The policy is to accept only those visitors who have legitimate business at the school. Parents are always welcome and are encouraged to make appointments for teacher conferences. If a parent wishes to visit his/her student’s classroom they must check in with an administrator or counselor first.

Lockers

Lockers are assigned at the beginning of each year. Lockers are not shared. Lockers should be kept locked at all times. The school is not responsible for items lost or stolen. Book- bags, backpacks, large coats, and purses MUST be kept in lockers. They are NOT permitted in classrooms, the media center, cafeteria, or other areas of the building. Random locker checks will be held throughout the year by the administration.

Telephone Policy

The office phone must, out of necessity, be used for school business only. The telephone in the guidance office may be used only in the case of illness. A student MUST have permission from a teacher and the guidance counselor to use the guidance phone. Cell Phones are to be turned off and concealed. If a cell phone is taken up the parent will have to pick it up from the office; it will not be returned to the student.

Textbooks

Textbooks are furnished by the Board of Education. Students are expected to take care of their books and return them in good condition. Replacing lost or damaged books is the responsibility of the student. EACH STUDENT SHALL BE FURNISHED ONE TEXTBOOK OR ONE SET OF BOOKS IN ANY ONE SCHOOL YEAR. IF A BOOK IS MISPLACED, THE STUDENT MUST PAY FOR THE LOST BOOK BEFORE HE/SHE IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A SECOND BOOK OF THE SAME TITLE.

Insurance

Accident insurance may be purchased early in the year for the school day or twenty-four hour coverage. All athletes and cheerleaders are required to purchase this insurance or present proof from their parents that they are already covered by personal insurance. Proof of insurance must be filed in the main office by the respective coach or sponsor for all student participants.

Bus Riders
