
A new addition to J.T. Moore's seventh and eight grade reading team is Mr. Scott Bennett. A native of Yarmouth, Maine, Mr. Bennett graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature in 2003. A decorated track and field athlete, Mr. Bennett sought out leadership opportunities and worked with several middle and high school athletes that would be a prelude to his future coaching career. A highlight of his undergraduate study was the opportunity to study abroad at Westminster College in Oxford, England.
Following graduation, Mr. Bennett taught wilderness survival and outdoor programs at Alldredge Academy in West Virginia before moving back to Maine. In Maine, he found balance working at a homeless shelter for teenagers and coaching track and field at Bates College. After two sucessful years, Mr. Bennett moved to live and work at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY before moving again to attend and coach at Belmont University in Nashville. While at Belmont, he earned his Master's Degree in Secondary English Education graduating in the spring of 2007 and his Belmont's Cross Country team produced the highest GPA in all of NCAA division one.
Mr. Bennett is an avid reader and adventurer, he spends his weekends biking, hiking, camping and enjoying the outdoors with his fiance Erin and his friends. As a competitive runner who will be running his third marathon in the fall of 2008 Mr. Bennett hopes of one day competing for a national team at the US Olympic Trails.
Mr. Bennett has enjoyed his first semester at J.T. Moore and looks forward to starting his first full year in the fall.
