My name is Cyndy Bishop and I am excited to be here at J. T. Moore! I have taught middle school for seven years, including six years in Texas and one year in MNPS at Neely’s Bend Middle. I love teaching middle school and I am passionate about English and reading.
I have a B. A. in Liberal Arts/English from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Humanities degree from The University of Dallas. I am certified in secondary English and history. I also have a Gifted and Talented Education Endorsement.
I was born and raised in Ft. Worth, TX, and have lived in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. In June 2007, our family moved to Nashville after an exciting and challenging two and half years in Exeter, UK. While living in England, I led seminars called Literature and Medicine with medical students. We explored great literature related to life, death, illness, and the kinds of experiences young doctors might face in their future. It was great fun!
My husband and I have three daughters. Our oldest is in 5th grade here at J.T. Moore, our 4th grader attends Julia Green, and our youngest attends The Children’s House Montessori. My husband teaches in The Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society at Vanderbilt.
My main goal is to guide and enable students to become independent learners and critical, creative thinkers who enjoy learning, and are inspired to expand their potential in reading and writing. I believe a language and reading class should focus on authentic reading and writing opportunities. Yes, we’ll get ready for TCAP, but there’s so much more to life, isn’t there?
I will be sponsoring the yearbook this year, so send me any ideas, suggestions, and photos. See the activities tab and go to yearbook to share photos and order your yearbook.
I relish student and parent support! If you would like to volunteer in any way, I can put you to work.
Here’s to an exciting, growth-filled year!
