Dear 7th grade Students and Parents,
¡Bienvenidos! We are about to begin a great year learning a TON of Spanish. It will be a lot of work, but I have no doubt you are up to the challenge. I am excited to get to know all of you and your parents. This year the Introduction to Spanish I class will again be using Paso a Paso, which will provide an excellent transition to ¡En espanol¡ the textbook used in 8th grade Spanish I for credit.
First, let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Amy Cate and this is my sixth year at J.T. Moore. My B.S. is in Spanish with a double major in Secondary Education from Vanderbilt. I am originally from Somerset, KY. My extended family is also from Nashville. The summer after I graduated from college, I went on a 6-week mission trip to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala where I worked in an orphanage and a clinic. I have also traveled to Costa Rica, Italy, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, England, Scotland, France, Spain and Romania. I love to travel! In fact, this summer I took a group of students to Paris and London. I will be traveling again this summer with student so if you are interested, let me know!
Students—Here’s what I want you to know about my class: I want my classes to be student-centered; my goal is not only to teach the basic skills of speaking, reading and writing Spanish, but also a knowledge of and appreciation for Hispanic culture. You are academically capable and my expectations will be high. I also want you to be responsible and cooperative. I will respect and help you and I expect the same.
Parents—I ask your support in your student’s endeavors. Praise for success and encouragement and help in difficult times are essential. I also want to support you. Please do not hesitate to contact me here at school (298-8095 ext 1016), or my email is amy.cate@mnps.org if you have questions, suggestions or concerns. Working together, your student will have an outstanding year in Spanish and J.T. Moore.
In addition to this letter your student received several pages of forms and information about my grading policy, supplies needed and the class in general that I would like for you (students AND parents!) to fill out and return to me by this FRIDAY, August 15th!
Thanks!
Amy Cate |
